2015 Highlights

This is not an exhaustive list, as so much has been accomplished in a year!)

  • We added two new members to our Board. Instead of the Magnificent 6, we are now the Magnificent 8 (Dr. Bob Bettis and Dr. Neena Seth). We can't do this without our friends in the US, the UK and our growing friendships in Vietnam.
  • We had our first Friend/Fundraiser in Seattle. We not only raised money at the event and later from those who attended to help with this years trips, but in sharing our story we gathered new friends who joining us on our October trip! Amazing! Thank you to United Emirates for free passage for our UK team!!
  • Pediatric Surgery Delegation at CTUMP on our October weekly trip, 100 patients seen and 41 patients received safe surgeries with urological and cleft lift palate issues. Teaching in this clinical setting included surgeons, anestheiologists, and nursing. Nursing education extended to other Can Tho institutions as well.
  • Physician education in Ear, Nose Throat Surgery, and Needs Assessment conducted regarding hearing care for children in the Mekong Delta.
  • Palliative Care brought its largest team, and with University of Washington has applied for opportunities to expand into home care.
  • University of Washington has expanded their collaboration with MEET by providing not only Psychiatry expertise, but Social Work, Radiology, Family Medicine, and Research with futures in Cardiology and Pediatrics.
  • The very beginning of Social Work education at Can Tho University and first ever Parent/Teacher conference at Truong Tuong Lai, a school for special needs kids, and also the first in the Mekong Delta.
  • Teaching in Anesthesiology at Can Tho City Hospital, Rheumatology , Emergency Room teaching, Teaching in Medical writing and preparation for research at CTUMP, Hand and Physical Therapy at four different sites in Can Tho, Psychology expansion, and Dental teaching!
  • LifeBox collaboration, bringing free pulse Oximetry and education throughout the Mekong.
  • Mental Health Care education provided to Family Medicine Physicians
  • Translation Service that was truly outstanding from US and Vietnam
