2017 November International Collaboration

From November 05th to November 10th, 2017, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy (CTUMP) worked with delegations from University of Washington and Medical Education Exchange Teams (MEET), U.S.A. Within the Collaborative Program, Pediatrics Charity Surgery Program for children in Mekong Delta and Educational Exchanges for CTUMP’s lecturers and students were carried out.
Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy was represented by Rector Board; Director Board of CTUMP’s Hospital; and CTUMP's faculties and departments consisting of Faculty of Medicine (Departments of Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Rehabilitation, Family Medicine, Diagnostic Imaging, ENT, and Psychiatry); and faculties of Public Health, Dentistry, Nursing and Medical Technology, Basic Sciences and some departments of CTUMP’s Hospital.
The combined delegations including 86 members, represented by Prof. Helen Sikov and Prof. Rob Gertler (MEET delegation); Prof. Richard Veith (University of Washington); Dr. Jacqui Murphy and Dr. Lance Tooke (Sub-group of Pediatric Surgery Delegation). There were 48 volunteers in the Pediatric Surgery Sub-group of cleft, hand, urology and general surgery; anesthetists, pediatric doctors, nurses, interpreters and IT staffs; and 38 professors, doctors, and experts in 14 different educational exchange sub-groups.
Working activities and outcomes:
- The pre-operative screening was performed in 108 pediatric patients. Of those, 49 cases of dent maxillofacial (14 cases), hand surgery (9 cases), urology and general surgery (26 cases) were carried out.
- The educational exchange, clinical practice and collaborative research proposal development between CTUMP, MEET and University of Washington delegations were successfully done in various fields of internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, family medicine, diagnostic imaging, ENT, psychiatry; public health, nursing care and medical language teaching.
- We organized a review meeting to summarize and report main activities and outcomes of the 8-year collaboration program between Cantho University of Medicine and Pharmacy and MEET and University of Washington (period 2010-2017).
- Several meetings were held to discuss future collaboration in the fields of public health, psychiatry health, scientific research and international articles, education for patients with breast cancer and primary care, etc:
