Social Work Huge Impact - Continue to Support Us

The MEET Social Work (SW) Team will be returning strong again to Vietnam in April, 2019. Our delegation, in just a few short years, is making a huge impact in a profession that has been silent for many generations in Vietnam, especially in the area of Medical SW, and in the S. Vietnam.

There are many qualified Social Workers who have expressed a desire for a place on our team, but are unable to fully afford our MEET All Volunteer delegation. Some of our interested Volunteers are willing to serve as Translators, so vital to ensure our communications are optimal when consulting or teaching students or medical staff. There are others who are willing to travel with MEET to share their knowledge and experience working in the field of Mental Health/Social Work in both the classroom or as a consultant, but cannot fully afford the costs for travel.

If you can help fund our pioneering efforts in the field of mental health/social work training in Can Tho, in S. Vietnam, please send your donation c/o of our Treasurer, Dr. Bob Bettis, MD, to the MEET mailing address on this website, or to MEET c/o Helen Sikov, 5945 Atlas Pl. SW, Seattle, WA, 98136.  Additionally, please designate any donations specifically to MEET for “Social Work Scholarship” purposes, or “Social Work Training” in general.

Additionally, we have practitioners in the Seattle, WA area, who have begun SKYPE consultation with Social Work staff at the Children’s Hospital in Vietnam. There are SW designees from several other hospitals (and a university faculty) who have also expressed a desire for electronic continuing education. Many of the SW team in Can Tho’s hospitals have had excellent educations, but may lack basic SW skills and knowledge.  There are not enough formally trained professional Social Workers yet, especially in medicine, since it is still relatively new (2014). The representatives we have met and interacted with are truly grateful for our assistance. They primarily learn through case consultation and informative presentations by our professionals. If there are Seattle area practitioners who are willing to Volunteer the once a month time to translate, or teach for these purposes, I would be interested in hearing from you.

Having donations for funding this endeavor would be extremely welcomed!

Our MEET Social Work team continues to grow. Their dedication and commitment to the profession and the global population we serve is inspiring.  We are needing kindred spirits to join us in this endeavor, and are grateful for any assistance financially as we attempt to educate and serve the millions of Vietnamese families in the less affluent Mekong Delta in Vietnam.

Many Thanks,

Helen Sikov, MSW, LNHA
Board President of MEET
